The last few years i have been playing 8
ball pool, and have achieved quite a lot in recent years ,
locally and nationally. As some of the photos on this page will
show.. The local league i play in is the Ayr & District
league, formally known as the Ayr & Prestwick league.. The
league plays every Thusday night , with cup games on a
Wednesday.. The current committee is W Mc Cartney Snr,(Chairman),
Brian Crooks(Secretary), and W Mc Cartney Jnr(Treasurer), ..The
League it self , is made of around 22teams which is 10 in the 1st
div and 12 in the 2nd div.... The 1st photo i'am going to show is
from June 1993 with the 1st team i ever played with .Ayrshire
& Galloway Hotel.. the photo is of us winning the Ayrshire
Nine Man Team event ..against the snug bar from Dalmellington,
the final score was 5-4 going right down to the last ball, which
was potted by Davy Mc gawn, the captain at the time was Mike
Kennan.. At the time we were the very first team from Ayr to win
this trophy.. .. I'am standing at the back in the middle , most
of these players are still playing........
The 2nd photo is me, still playing with the Ayrshire & Galloway . The date is April 1994 , The cup this time is the super cup , at the time is was called the Griffen Super Cup . Its a end of the season cup where the best teams that season play play off against each other , for the final piece of silverware of the season... The opponents this time round are the NewtonA , the score 4-3..Most of the players in this photo are now playing with the Durward Hotel......
One of my biggest achievments , came last year 1998 , when winning the Ayrshire group to become Ayrshire Team Champions, then representing Ayrshire in the Scottish team Championships..The championships took place in Cowie , with all the regional qualifiers. At first i don't think anyone thought we could actually win it , but as the day wore on minds began to change.. first round opponents were Inverness, the score 6-4 . semi- finalists opponents were Edinburgh, the score 6-5. Then came the final, the opponents in the final were East Fife , who had just knocked out the favourites Glasgow.. After a tense start we eventually went on to win 6-4 . and became Scottish super Cup Winners , the first time in the events history (24yrs) an Ayr team had won it.. It was one of my best moments in my life..to be involved in a history making event . I just want to take this moment to say a big thanx to all the guys who played in the team and a special thanx to John Allan and Duncan Payne the Captain and vice captain...who made us believe.....all the players names will be at the bottom of the photo...
